Bella & Nathaniel’s Sunny Spring Wedding at The Cove Jervis Bay

There are few places that feel quite as Australian as a wedding at The Cove Jervis Bay. White sand, clear blue water, beautiful bushland, kangaroos wandering around after dark and, on this particular spring day, even a brown snake decided to make an appearance.

Bella and Nathaniel could not have asked for better weather for their Jervis Bay wedding. It was one of those beautifully warm and sunny spring days on the NSW South Coast, with blue skies from the moment we arrived and gorgeous afternoon light waiting for us down on the beach.

And the whole day was full of exactly what we love photographing. Lots of laughter, plenty of tears, colour, movement, family, friends and so much joy.

Getting ready at The Cove Jervis Bay

One of the things we love about a wedding at The Cove Jervis Bay is that everything happens in one place.

Bella and Nathaniel were able to get ready on the property, surrounded by their closest friends and family, without having to spend part of their wedding day travelling between locations.

Bella got ready in one of The Cove’s beautiful white cottages, and the spring sunshine pouring through the property gave us some gorgeous light for her getting ready photos.

There were all the little details we love capturing too. The dress hanging outside, perfume, flowers, jewellery and plenty of fun with the bridal party before it was time for the ceremony.

A waterfront Jervis Bay wedding ceremony

The ceremony location at The Cove really is something special.

Bella and Nathaniel married overlooking the water, surrounded by bushland and their favourite people, with the brilliant blue Jervis Bay sky behind them.

There were tears, huge smiles and plenty of laughter throughout the ceremony, followed by one very happy walk back down the aisle as newlyweds.

It is exactly why we love photographing weddings on the NSW South Coast. You get that relaxed coastal atmosphere while still having an absolutely beautiful setting for the ceremony and photographs.

After the ceremony we headed down to the beach for portraits with Bella, Nathaniel and their wedding party.

The late afternoon spring light was incredible.

Rather than spending the whole portrait session standing still and posing, we had everyone moving, laughing and running along the sand. Bella and Nathaniel could simply enjoy some time together while we photographed everything happening around them.

The white sand, deep blue sky and ocean made the perfect backdrop, particularly with the reds and greens running through Bella’s flowers.

It was warm, sunny and ridiculously beautiful.

Kangaroos, surfboards and one unexpected wedding guest

You cannot have a proper South Coast wedding without some wildlife.

As the day moved into night, the local kangaroos started making themselves at home around the reception. One even wandered right through the venue, because apparently Bella and Nathaniel had forgotten to put him on the guest list.

But the wildlife encounter of the day actually happened much earlier.

A brown snake appeared beside the sand during the afternoon.

We are always looking for interesting little moments that tell the complete story of a wedding day, but that was definitely one detail we photographed from a very sensible distance!

Between the kangaroos, brown snake, surfboards, beach and bushland, you really couldn’t have created a more Australian wedding if you tried.

A relaxed South Coast wedding reception

As the sun disappeared, everyone headed inside for dinner, speeches and celebrations.

The reception was full of emotional speeches, big reactions and plenty of laughter before the party moved outside for dancing.

With @markmatthewsmusic on saxophone and DJ duties, the dance floor quickly came alive and stayed that way.

We snuck Bella and Nathaniel away for one final nighttime portrait underneath The Cove’s beautiful fairy light arch before heading back to the party.

From a sunny waterfront ceremony and running barefoot across the sand to kangaroos appearing at the reception, this was such a fun wedding to photograph.

Bella and Nathaniel’s day was relaxed, emotional, colourful and completely them.
