A Colourful Spring Wedding at The Woodhouse Wollombi

There are some wedding venues where you arrive and immediately start seeing photographs everywhere, and The Woodhouse Wollombi is absolutely one of them.

Set amongst the countryside of Wollombi in the beautiful Hunter Valley, The Woodhouse has this incredible mix of modern timber architecture, open landscapes, beautiful gardens and plenty of space for a wedding to unfold naturally.

And for us, that’s pretty much the dream.

This was a wedding filled with colour, sunshine, laughter and real moments, from an outdoor ceremony under blue spring skies right through to a packed dance floor and the newlyweds jumping behind the decks to DJ their own wedding.

A Spring Wedding at The Woodhouse Wollombi

Spring certainly showed up for this one.

Blue skies, green countryside and blossoms around the property made The Woodhouse look particularly beautiful, while the wedding itself brought plenty of colour of its own.

Pastels, bright dresses, colourful florals and parasols were mixed amongst the warm timber and natural tones of the venue. It gave us so much to work with without anything feeling overly styled or forced.

One of our favourite things about photographing weddings here is the architecture.

The huge timber buildings and clean geometric lines are completely different to most country wedding venues around NSW. They allow us to play with scale, shadows, symmetry and negative space, creating photographs where the venue becomes part of the image rather than simply sitting in the background.

And then you can walk a few minutes away and suddenly be surrounded by trees, gardens and open countryside.

It’s a pretty special combination.

Real Moments Over Perfect Poses

Our approach to wedding photography has always been about documenting what a wedding actually felt like.

Of course we’ll find beautiful light and take you somewhere amazing for portraits, but the photographs we really love are often the things that happen in between.

The hugs immediately after the ceremony. Someone laughing in the background. Champagne being poured. Guests wandering through the gardens. A dress catching the light. Friends losing it on the dance floor.

The little moments that nobody planned.

This wedding had plenty of them.

Rather than spending hours disappearing for photographs, we kept the portraits relaxed and used the grounds around The Woodhouse as the day unfolded. The result was a mix of colourful environmental portraits, candid documentary photographs and a handful of more editorial frames amongst that incredible architecture.

It still looked beautiful, but more importantly, it still felt like them.

Colourful Documentary Wedding Photography

We love colour.

While wedding photography trends come and go, we’ve never wanted every wedding to become beige, muted or overly perfect.

If there are bright blue skies, we want them blue.

If your friends arrive wearing incredible colours, they’re becoming part of the photograph.

If there are pink dresses, colourful flowers, green gardens and warm timber buildings, we’re certainly not trying to make them disappear.

Colour is part of the memory of a place.

And looking back through this wedding, that’s one of the things we love most. The photographs feel alive.

There are beautiful portraits and quiet black and white moments mixed amongst big splashes of colour, movement, laughter and everything else happening around the couple.

That’s what we are all about. Real couples, real moments captured.

From Golden Light to the Dance Floor

As the afternoon light softened, we ducked away for a few relaxed portraits around the property before everyone headed inside for the reception.

The Woodhouse changes completely after dark.

The warm timber, fairy lights and darker reception space create a totally different atmosphere from the bright outdoor ceremony, which meant the photography could change with it too.

Speeches turned into drinks.

Drinks turned into dancing.

And then things got particularly fun.

When the Newlyweds Become the DJs

There are plenty of ways to finish a wedding.

Having the newlyweds take over the decks and DJ their own wedding reception has to be pretty high on our list.

By this point everyone was well and truly ready for a party, and watching the couple behind the decks while their friends packed the dance floor was such a brilliant way to finish the story of the day.

No elaborate posing required.

Just music, colour, movement, questionable dance moves and a room full of their favourite people.

Exactly the kind of moments we love photographing.

Planning a Wedding at The Woodhouse Wollombi?

For couples looking for a Hunter Valley wedding venue that feels modern while still being surrounded by the countryside, The Woodhouse Wollombi offers something pretty distinctive.

From an outdoor ceremony and drinks amongst the gardens to portraits around the property and a reception that can turn into a proper party after dark, you can essentially spend the entire wedding in one place without every part of the day looking the same.

From a photography perspective, that’s something we absolutely love.

Give us beautiful architecture, great light, lots of colour and a bunch of people having the time of their lives and we’ll happily take it from there.

Real couples. Real moments. And photographs that actually feel like your wedding.
