IMMY & KAI | wedding photography at The Lodge Jambaroo | NSW South Coast

October 23, 2026

Threatening rain, a champagne spray and a best man who made an appearance in cardboard form. Immy and Kai’s wedding at The Lodge Jamberoo had plenty of beautiful details, but it was the personality running through the day that made it such a joy to photograph.

Set among the trees in Jamberoo on the NSW South Coast, their wedding brought together soft blue dresses, colourful flowers, creekside portraits and a dance floor that deserved its own chapter.

The rain held off, the celebrations spilled outdoors, and there was always something happening beyond the obvious photograph. Exactly the kind of day we love documenting.

A wedding at The Lodge Jamberoo on the NSW South Coast

The Lodge Jamberoo sits on Jamberoo Mountain Road in the Jamberoo Valley, inland from Kiama. It has that lovely combination of a leafy country setting and a distinctly playful holiday feel.

Tall trees and lush gardens sit alongside a bright blue swimming pool, striped umbrellas and open lawns. Within the same wedding gallery, you can move from a quiet moment beside the creek to a colourful poolside scene without losing the sense of place.

For Immy and Kai, those different spaces became part of the story. Guests gathered beneath the trees for the ceremony, caught up outside afterwards and made themselves comfortable around the grounds.

As photographers, we love a venue that gives people room to enjoy themselves. The setting matters, of course, but so does what it allows to happen within it: a conversation on a lawn chair, a spontaneous game, or a few minutes together away from the crowd.

Soft blues, colourful flowers and personal details

Immy’s floral embellished dress felt right at home against The Lodge’s greenery. Kai’s blue suit and the soft blue bridesmaids dresses from With Améi carried the colour through the wedding party, while the bouquets by Bold Botanicals Sydney introduced peach, yellow, blue and white.

It was a beautiful combination against the deep greens of Jamberoo. The flowers brought warmth and variety without everything needing to match exactly.

Emery Makeup looked after hair and makeup, and the smaller details gave us plenty to notice too. Shoes nestled against leaves, flowers on the tables and colourful touches at the place settings all helped tell the story of what Immy and Kai had put together.

We photograph those details because they belong to the day. But we also love seeing them become part of the celebration: bouquets carried between conversations, dresses moving across the lawn and carefully chosen outfits finding their way onto the dance floor.

An outdoor ceremony with rain threatening overhead

There was the threat of rain, but thankfully it held off.

Beneath the tall trees, guests settled onto timber benches for a ceremony led by Married by Cerys. The leafy surroundings made the space feel tucked away, with the wedding unfolding in the middle of all that green.

The cloudy skies also gave us lovely soft light. You do not need uninterrupted sunshine for beautiful wedding photographs, particularly somewhere with as much atmosphere as The Lodge Jamberoo.

What mattered most was already there: Immy and Kai together, their people around them, and all the little reactions happening throughout the ceremony.

Those are the moments we keep watching for. Alongside the vows and the walk back down the aisle, there is a whole other story in the faces of the people who have come to celebrate.

A best man who was there in cardboard form

One particularly personal part of the day was the cardboard cutout of Kai’s best man.

After being called to service, he was unable to attend in person. So a life size cardboard version took his place in the celebrations, including photographs with the groomsmen.

There was plenty of humour in seeing everyone gather around the cutout, but there was also something really lovely behind it. Someone important could not be there, and Immy and Kai had found a way to include him.

It is the sort of detail that makes a wedding unmistakably yours. Years from now, those photographs will carry a story that goes well beyond how everyone looked.

Wedding portraits around The Lodge Jamberoo

The grounds gave us plenty of variety for Immy and Kai’s portraits.

We photographed them beneath the trees, beside the rocky creek and around the pool, where the turquoise water brought a completely different feel to the gallery. The surrounding greenery tied everything together, while each location added something of its own.

There were quieter photographs of the two of them together, but also movement, laughter and a little silliness. Immy’s dress caught beautifully as she moved, and the open spaces gave them room to walk, spin and simply enjoy being together.

Our approach to portraits is relaxed. We offer direction when it helps, but leave room for couples to respond naturally. You do not need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands or how to stand.

Sometimes a little movement is all it takes. Often, the photograph we love most happens just after the one we were making.

Documentary wedding photography and the moments in between

As documentary wedding photographers, we are interested in the whole experience of your wedding.

That includes the ceremony, the flowers and the portraits. It also includes the champagne spraying further than expected, someone laughing from a lawn chair, friends gathering around a cardboard best man and guests getting a little competitive over a garden game.

At Immy and Kai’s wedding, those moments were everywhere.

The champagne tower became a scene of flying bubbles and surprised faces. Guests spread out across the lawn. There were hugs, conversations and little pockets of activity that would have been easy to miss if we were only looking for the next formal photograph.

Not everything has to be perfect. A dress will move, hair will come loose and people will pull expressions they never would if you asked them to pose. Those things often make a photograph feel more like the person you know.

We want you to look back and recognise yourselves. To remember how it felt to be surrounded by those people, in that place, on that particular day.

That is why we leave space for things to unfold. Your wedding deserves to be experienced, and the photographs should bring you back to that experience.

A lively reception with Ceilidh Connections

As the celebrations moved inside, The Lodge’s reception space brought a warmer feel, with timber floors, white beams and fairy lights overhead.

Immy changed into a short white dress, ready for the evening, and Ceilidh Connections provided the music. Cerys continued as MC, while Shot by Amei was there capturing content throughout the day.

The photographs tell this part of the story particularly well: joined hands, spinning dresses, a dramatic dip and guests throwing themselves into the dancing.

We love photographing a dance floor with movement in it. A little blur can hold onto the feeling of a spin, and colourful light can bring back the atmosphere of the room. There is room in a wedding gallery for photographs that feel as lively as the moment itself.

Planning your own wedding at The Lodge Jamberoo?

If you are planning a wedding at The Lodge Jamberoo, there is plenty to enjoy about its South Coast setting. The gardens, trees, creek and pool offer different backdrops, while the spaces between them leave room for the smaller moments that make a wedding personal.

Our advice is to give yourselves time to enjoy it. Allow room for conversations, a wander together and whatever unexpected moments come your way.

Immy and Kai’s day had beautiful styling and a wonderful setting, but the photographs we keep coming back to are full of people being themselves.

We are Shyani and Simon, the photographers behind Moments Photography & Film. We photograph weddings in Jamberoo, Kiama and across the NSW South Coast, with a relaxed documentary approach and a love for colour, connection and the moments in between.

If that sounds like how you would like your wedding remembered, we would love to hear what you are planning.
