Spring in the Southern Highlands always feels a little extra special, and Catarina and Cameron’s wedding at Bendooley Estate’s iconic Book Barn was no exception. We joined their day from the ceremony onwards, and from the moment guests arrived on the gardens it was clear this was going to be a celebration filled with colour, warmth and genuine connection.
Set within one of the most loved wedding venues in NSW, the Book Barn sits quietly among rolling countryside, manicured lawns and timeless architecture that makes every wedding feel elevated yet relaxed.
A Garden Ceremony in the Southern Highlands
Their ceremony took place on the lawns of Bendooley’s gardens under beautiful spring sunshine. Surrounded by friends and family, Catarina and Cameron exchanged vows with the Southern Highlands landscape creating a soft and romantic backdrop.
There is something incredibly special about a Southern Highlands wedding. The slower pace, fresh country air and open spaces allow couples to truly be present in the moment. As photographers, this kind of setting gives us the freedom to capture natural interactions as they unfold rather than forcing anything; add some bubble guns, and it’s the perfect match.
Colour That Truly Elevated the Day
Sweet Pea Botanica brought the entire vision to life with florals that absolutely popped. Colour at a wedding has a way of transforming the energy of a space, and this celebration embraced it fully.

Lakeside Cocktail Hour as the Sun Set
Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the lakeside pavilion for an extended cocktail hour while the sun slowly dipped behind the trees. This part of the day always feels relaxed and organic, giving everyone time to connect while we captured candid moments between hugs, laughter and quiet conversations.
The Southern Highlands light during spring is soft and golden, which made portraits feel effortless and natural as the afternoon turned into evening.
Shooting Digital and Portra 400 Film on the Pentax 67
Alongside digital coverage, we photographed one roll of Kodak Portra 400 on the Pentax 67. Medium format Film brings a different texture and depth that complements our digital work beautifully, especially in colourful outdoor settings like Bendooley Estate.
The roll was developed and scanned on a Noritsu scanner in Melbourne, giving the images that signature film tone that feels timeless and nostalgic while still fitting seamlessly within the full gallery.
A Joyful Reception Inside the Book Barn
As guests entered the Book Barn for the reception, the atmosphere shifted into pure celebration. The space was filled with heartfelt speeches, tears, laughter and a dance floor that stayed busy all night.
The Book Barn is known for its warm timber interiors and soft ambient lighting, which creates a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. It is a venue that allows couples to celebrate fully while still feeling connected to the surrounding Southern Highlands landscape.
